Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 10 oz bag of mini marshmallows (about 5 cups)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal or generic brand

For the Chocolate Topping (Optional):

  • 8 oz chocolate chips about 1 1/3 cups or chopped chocolate
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil optional, to help melt the chocolate smoothly

Instructions
 

Stovetop Method:

  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  • Add the mini marshmallows and peanut butter, stirring until fully combined and smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the Rice Krispies, mixing gently.
  • Press the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch pan.

Microwave Method:

  • In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine butter and marshmallows.
  • Heat on medium power in 1-minute intervals, stirring between each, until melted.
  • Stir in the peanut butter until smooth.
  • Add the Rice Krispies and mix well.
  • Press into a greased 9x13-inch pan.

Notes

  • For softer peanut butter Rice Krispie treats, use 5 1/2 cups of Rice Krispies.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 3 days.
